Hair Care
GENERAL CARE & WASH DAY
Always gently detangle your extensions before washing. Use a wide-tooth comb or a paddle brush, starting from the ends and working your way up to the wefts. For curly textures, it's often best to detangle when wet with conditioner.
Opt for high-quality, moisturizing, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfates can strip raw hair of its natural oils and lead to dryness.
Wash your extensions in lukewarm water. Apply shampoo in a downward motion, gently massaging it into the hair. Do not pile the hair on top of your head or rub it vigorously, as this can cause tangling. Ensure all shampoo is completely rinsed out to prevent product buildup.
Raw hair loves moisture. Apply a generous amount of moisturizing conditioner, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Leave it on for at least 15-30 minutes for deep conditioning. You can even put the bundles in a plastic bag to create a makeshift hot oil treatment effect.
Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticles, locking in moisture, enhancing shine, and reducing frizz. For curly or wavy textures, co-washing (conditioning only washing) 2-3 times a week can help maintain moisture and cleanse without over-shampooing.
The best way to dry raw hair extensions is to allow them to air dry completely. Gently pat excess water from the hair with a soft microfiber towel or old t-shirt. Lay them flat on a clean towel or hang them. Avoid rubbing or wringing the hair, which can cause frizz and damage. Make sure the wefts are completely dry before use.
STYLING
Raw hair can be styled just like your own hair, but remember it doesn't produce its own oils. Use a lightweight leave-in conditioner or a small amount of natural oil (like argan oil) regularly to keep the hair soft, hydrated, and manageable. Avoid heavy products that can weigh the hair down.
Too much product can lead to dull, weighed-down hair that requires more frequent washing. Less is often more.
If you must use heat styling tools, always apply a high-quality heat protectant spray or serum. Alternatively, opt for a heatless curling set before bed.
Before bed, gently braid or tie your hair into a high ponytail or bun to prevent tangling and frizz while sleeping. Wear a silk or satin bonnet or sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce friction and moisture loss.
COLORING
While raw hair can be colored, it's always best to have it done by a professional colorist experienced with extensions to achieve desired results and minimize damage. If your extensions are colored, use sulfate-free and color-safe shampoos and conditioners to preserve the vibrancy of the color.
